The Caregiver Interaction Scale (CIS) developed by Jeffrey Arnett (1989) examines the quality of a teacher’s interaction with pre-school children. This widely used tool is completed by an observer who rates the teacher’s behavior in a child-care or home-based setting. The primary use of this instrument is to examine a teacher’s interactions with children and to assess the teacher’s emotional tone, discipline style, and responsiveness in the classroom.

CLASS - The Classroom Assessment Scoring System is an observation instrument developed to assess classroom quality in preschool through third-grade classrooms.
